Message If anyone out there purchases the newest style DXD clutch( the one that uses and NA flywheel), but you only have a TT aftermarket aluminum flywheel and you mail out your existing aluminum flywheel to be remachined to accept the new pressure plate. Be sure to either ask to pay more to have helicoils insearted into the new threads, or once you get the flywheel, take it to a machine shop, and have them insert some.

I got mine and just assumed they were inserted since the original holes that RPS had made in the flywheel had them and since it's only aluminum. i figured it woul dbe common sense to insert them and didn't even look closley.

Unfortunatley, they were not, and upon tightening the last pressure plate bolt to 30ftlbs with a god quality Snap-ON torque wrench (I know it's accurate...this is the ONLY tool I bought from Snap-On since I knew this is probably the most important, and cause their prices are stupid), it stripped out way before 30ftlbs.

I was pissed to say the least and removed the PP and Flywheel and metal shavings came out of every hole...even all the ones I didn' teven kno whad been slightly stripped. After looking closely I then realised there were no helicoils inserted into the new tapped holes. Turns out the aluminum used to make the RPS flywheel isn't the best to thread directly into for 30ftlbs. (Probably why RPS puts helicoils in their flywheels from the beginning.

Anyways, after this happened, I took my flywheel to a local shop I have really come to like latley for my metal machining needs (since I don't have the tools for this) and had them redrill everything and insert helicoils into the flywheel. The owner was really suprised the other machine shop that customizes these flywheels didn't do it already sinc eit's aluminum. Anyways, just installed everything again, and now everything works great and is the way it should be.

This is hardly a rant as it was easily fixed, but definatley something others need to be aware of before installing their redrilled flywheels with their new DXD clutch, and also a problem that should probably be fixed by the distributer to save them some serious headache from a customer?

Thanks,
Mike
